Brooklyn

Everybody knows the place Brooklyn, which is one of the five parts (Boroughs) of New York City.

But not everybody knows that it is one of the three biggest cities in North America. Nor that it is or was the home of Woody Allen, Spike Lee, Barbara Streisand, and the infamous members of Murder, Inc. Nor that it is the most multi-ethnic place in the US.

Each community had its own imprint and the landscape is a surreal hodgepodge of every architecture know to man. A surreal landscape of a Kingdom of Oz. I have documented most of it… all would have taken many months.

William Klein

"The camera has been a partner, rather than a burden. And the quality of the photos have proven to be an unexpected revelation."

Distinguished as one of our great living icons, William Klein’s celebrated depiction of urban life changed the way people considered photography.

Adding to his distinction is his great artistry, which reaches beyond the still image into both film and painting. His refusal to compromise adds to his allure of celebrity.

Amongst his extensive list of accolades, in 2012, Klein received the Outstanding Contribution to Photography award at the annual Sony World Photography Awards in recognition of his work in the field of photography.

His work has been exhibited across the globe, including the US, Russia, Italy, China, England, France, Spain, Switzerland and, most recently in 2012/13, a critically acclaimed showcase at the TATE Modern in London. Klein’s work is in the collection of The Guggenheim Museum (New York), J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles), The Tate Modern (London), Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris), Museum of Modern Art (New York), Bibliothèque Nationale de France (Paris) and the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York).
