Salve Deus! That is the typical greeting at the Vale do Amanhecer, a religious community based on a doctrine that mixes elements of Christianity, Spiritism, mysticism, Afro-Brazilian religions, as well as Mayan and ancient Egyptian beliefs. Their pyramid temple in Recife has a picture of Jesus and Amanhotep. It was founded by the ex-truck driver and medium, Tia Neiva, in 1969 in Brasilia - the heart of Brazil - and has since then spread through various Brazilian cities and gained followers worldwide. Those seeking spiritual or personal guidance can visit the many Vale do Amanhecer locations and speak to its hundreds of mediums, who receive spirits of popular Afro-Brazilian figures.
