June 13th

At long last, it's begun.  Tudo Bom!  And it happened exactly as predicted.  Confusion in São Paulo.  A protest in the morning with an (over)excited police force.  game in the evening with an (over)excited fanbase.  Which is exactly what we're hoping this project possesses.  Joy on one end.  Frustration on the other.  It was a big first day.  More to shoot in the morning....

Stephanie, 9, cleans the hair of her Barbie dolls as she has her hair braided by a neighbor in the Copa do Povo. The Copa do Povo (People's Cup) is a tent camp for people that could no longer afford housing prices in the São Paulo. Rents were nearly tripled because of the World Cup and for people on the fringe, that was just too much to afford. The people just took the land as their own and haven't left yet. The community consists of a hillside covered in plastic wrapped shanties which shelter approximately 5000 people.
